Board of Governors

​The duties of the ICS Board of Governors are to:

  • Guide and oversee the strategic development of the school, recruit the Principal and delegate responsibility for the school's day-to-day administration

  • Establish and approve an annual budget

  • Schedule educational, policy and administrative inspections and ensure that the audit results are abided by

  • Establish and develop relationships with the Principal, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and school staff

  • Communicate with the SICJ, parents, staff and students to ensure that stakeholders are updated on Board priorities, decisions and activities

  • Promote the work of the school and success of students and staff locally and globally

  • Establish and operate sub-committees made up of Board and SLT members, as required:

    • Health, Safety & Security

    • Education

    • Finance

    • Construction

    • Human Resources

  • Establish and maintain Governor Links with designated staff to ensure familiarity with the strengths and areas for development of particular domains, such as

    • Child Protection, Safeguarding & Wellbeing

    • Inclusion

    • Technology

    • Secondary

    • Primary

Karim Saifi

Chair

Karim is a Jordanian, German citizen who graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 2001 with a BA in Economics. After receiving his degree, he returned to Jordan and started a textile manufacturing firm in the QIZ zone. Under his management, the business developed rapidly from 200 up to 1,000 employees and was his first experience in the international trade world. In 2011, he joined the family business MUCC in construction as the deputy GM for business development and is also the managing director of Quicksand Gym, a high-end fitness facility located in Abdoun. Between 2006 and 2014, Karim also served as the President of the ABS Alumni association as well as on the endowment fund of the ABS School, and has been appointed to serve as a board member of the Middle East Insurance Co. since 2020.

Ralph Walker-Okeover

Vice Chair

Ralph is a British citizen who graduated from Manchester University in 2004. After graduating, Raif served for seven years in the British army before starting a teaching career in London as a Religion and Philosophy teacher. This experience has given Raif a profound respect for teachers and the education profession. Raif joined the UK Civil Service after teaching, firstly working at the Home Office in London and now the Foreign Office here at the British Embassy Amman, where his wife, Jennie, also works.

Gary Williams

Treasurer

Gary is a British citizen married to a Jordanian. They have a 10-year-old son who is currently in Year 5 at ICS. Gary has 33 years experience in the Finance sector, specialising in internal auditing where he has worked for Standard Chartered Bank and the Commercial Bank Qatar. He has worked in the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Dubai and Qatar. Gary and his wife moved back to Jordan where Gary is now a full time stay-at-home father, allowing his wife to focus on her career here in Amman.

Iciar Vaquero

Secretary

Iciar holds a BA in International Business Administration from ICADE, Madrid and an MBA from Columbia Business School. In Europe, Iciar worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Co. as the Head of Strategy at The Carbon Trust and, more recently, in the healthcare sector where she worked with private equity-invested health companies, including NHS England and latterly as Head of Strategy at BUPA UK. Iciar arrived in Jordan in 2016 and has been involved in the strategic development and successful opening of Abdali Hospital where she is currently working as Chief Strategy Officer. She also serves on the Board of Microfund for Women.

Jean holds a Master’s degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a BA from the University of Florida where he majored in History and Mandarin Chinese. Jean is fluent in English, Mandarin, French, and Haitian Creole; he has recently started to learn Arabic with the goal of achieving professional fluency in Arabic by summer 2022! Jean is a member of the U.S. Foreign Service and works at U.S. Embassy Amman; he previously held the office of Assistant Director of Admissions at Georgetown University's Master of Science in the Foreign Service Program and has been a member of many boards and steering committees.

Dr. Adel Odeh Haddad

Dr Adel is a prominent plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Amman, having graduated from the University of Jordan. Dr. Adel conducted his internship at King Hussain Medical Center before beginning his residency programme in surgery in 1990, achieving his Board recognition from the Royal Medical Services in 1994. After Board registration, Dr. Adel enjoyed a successful career in private practice in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Adel is heavily invested in the modern development of Amman, where he owns a real estate business that specialises in Commercial Offices, with a significant number of holdings at Abdali Boulevard development.

Dr. Robert Palmer

Robert is a British citizen with a BA in Natural Sciences from Durham University and an MA (Development Studies) and PhD (Education and Development) from Edinburgh University. Robert has over 20 years experience working in education policy research and education project design, implementation and evaluation. Robert married his wife, Lama, in 2005 in Amman and has worked full time in Amman since 2009.
