Matthew graduated from Oxford University with an MA in English Language and Literature and completed his Post Graduate Certificate of Education from the University of Leeds. He started his career in the UK state maintained sector, holding a number of teaching, and middle and senior leadership, roles in the South East of England, culminating in the Deputy Headship of an innovative, inner-city comprehensive in London. Since leaving the UK, Matthew has been Secondary Principal at the Danube International School, an IB continuum school in Vienna, and at the International School Brunei, a British international school delivering the IGCSE and the IB diploma. Before coming to ICS as Secondary Principal, Matthew was Deputy Head of School for three years at Bromsgrove International School in Thailand, the international arm of one of the UK's oldest independent schools.
Having served as an Adjunct Lecturer in school leadership at the University Brunei Darussalam, Matthew has now begun his Doctorate in Education at Bournemouth University, under the supervision of Professor Stephen Heppell, one of the world's leading voices on schooling and education. He also writes widely, is a popular conference speaker, and works with headteachers worldwide, advising and training them about effective assessment and teaching, and promoting the initiatives being implemented at ICS, such as #themonalisaeffect, #earlyyearsup and #makethepoint. He and his family are delighted to be able to come to ICS every day, and he could not be prouder to be the Principal of this wonderful school.
