Visual Arts

The Art Department at ICS offers a learning environment that is stimulating, pleasant and disciplined. It comprises two inter-connected classrooms with extensive facilities unique to each discipline. It is a vibrant space with large windows flooding the rooms with light and offering students a space to be creative and grow.

The two art rooms have plenty of storage space for equipment and paint, drying racks and storage drawers. A Level students have their own drawers to store their coursework.

The Art Department is equipped with drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting, sewing and digital design facilities. It has two digital projectors and smart boards for visual presentations, two white boards, stainless steel tables that can be adjusted in height and easels for still life painting and drawing. There are three display boards in each classroom and three in our corridor to display students’ work continuously throughout the year. “What’s On” board is updated regularly to make students aware of exhibitions and events in the local area and Internationally.

In addition to our facilities, trips to local galleries are considered a vital experience which all students enjoy, it forms an integral part of their IGCSE and A Level studies.  We make every effort to utilise local resources, invite visiting speakers and artists to generate a high level of interest in art and design as a career.

Every year, the Art Department holds the ICS Annual Art and Design Exhibition under the patronage of HRH Princess Majda Raad, president of Al Hussein Society: Jordan Center for Training and Inclusion (AHS). All proceeds of the exhibition are donated to the children of Al Hussein Society. To support this exhibition, the department organises art and craft workshops with the AHS as well as ICS students, staff and parents. The work created in these workshops is displayed and sold at the exhibition.
